Reduced temperatures asphalt TEMPERA

Description

Relationships with the Group’s specialists allow the company to collect best practices, which it aims to apply in Lithuania.

Another product tested by AB Eurovia Lietuva and in active use today is Tempera® reduced temperature asphalt. This product, which has proven itself in the Eurovia Group, has already achieved good results after the first tests. It has been noted that the production of Tempera® asphalt uses less fossil fuel. The production process also produces fewer GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions, in other words less CO2, which is harmful to our planet and which the Eurovia Group has committed to reducing by 40% by 2030. This asphalt reduces the emission of chemicals harmful to human health in the form of vapours during the laying of asphalt, while maintaining the same quality as conventional hot-mix asphalt.

The price of energy sources and energy insecurity have made this technology particularly relevant in recent years. In 2022, Vilnius City Municipality was the first to agree to an experiment and to allow the use of Tempera® asphalt mix in one of the city’s streets. As both Tempera® and conventional mixes were laid on the experimental stretch, the performance of the mixes was compared and conclusions drawn during testing, research and monitoring. Physical and mechanical properties such as air void content, compaction coefficient, water resistance, modulus of elasticity and durability were checked. Reductions in energy consumption, CO2 emissions and improvements in working conditions were also calculated by means of a questionnaire.
